A pair of students from Northern Collegiate have been named co-winners of the Stefanko Award.
Presented annually by the Lambton Kent District School Board, the award recognizes the one male and one female secondary student in Lambton County who best exemplify outstanding athletic and academic achievement.
Andrew Davies maintained top standing through his four years of French Immersion at
Northern and exceled in track, tennis and badminton.
He won the individual Lambton-Kent cross country championship from Grades 10 to 12, was a champion tennis player at the local and regional level, and attended the OFSSAA cross country finals, where he finished top 12 in Ontario last fall.
Davies plans to study integrated business and humanities at McMaster University and will compete on the school’s cross country and track and field teams.
Caroline Forbes is described as a quiet leader, a role model among her peers, and a regular volunteer in the community.
She maintained a strong academic standing throughout her high school career while competing at an elite level in cross country and track and field.
Last fall, she was a member of the Northern senior girls team that won gold at the all-Ontario championships.
Forbes plans to study kinesiology at McMaster and will join Davies on the track team.
The Stefanko Award winners are selected from the five public high schools in Lambton County.
Education director Jim Costello described the pair as “role models for their peers and the broader school community.”
