The Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame is putting out the call for nominees for its 2018 class.
Nominations for induction into the hall are being accepted until April 30 in all categories, including professional and amateur athletes, as well as special achievement.
The latter category recognizes people who have made significant contributions to sports beyond athletic endeavours, such as through officiating, coaching, media or training.
Other awards are also available – the Bud Morrison, which recognizes important contributions to youth, and the Earl MacKenzie, for people involved in sports at least 30 years.
The Joe DeRush award celebrates athletes who have overcome disabilities, while the Pappy Burr award honours high school students headed to post-secondary education.
The Rose Hodgson award is for outstanding contributions to the community.
The Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame also usually inducts a team that has won a major championship or performed in an outstanding manner.
It recognizes builders or executives who have contributed in a significant way to sport development, including administration, officiating or operations.
Nominations can be emailed to [email protected] or by contacting president Pete Coenjarts at 519-542-4095. Any other board member will also accept nominations.
The hall of fame is also looking for volunteers interested in joining its board.
The 36th annual induction dinner is set for Sept. 15 at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club.
