Sarnia’s love affair with hockey shone brightly when the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour touched down in Sarnia last week.
Thousands showed up for a downtown street party at Front and George over the weekend, which included live entertainment, pick-up games of ball hockey and meet-and-greets with NHL alumni such as Darryl Sittler and Darren McCarty.
There was also plenty of homegrown talent on hand, from live performances by Andrew Austin and Rumble Fish on the main stage to autograph signings with Sarnia NHLers Dino Ciccarelli and Mike Stapleton.
The big draw Sunday was the live national pre-game show with Ron MacLean and crew and an outdoor viewing party for Calgary Flames vs. Detroit Red Wings game broadcast on Sportsnet.
Even Lord Stanley’s famous cup turned up at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre on Dec. 16, surprising members of the Major Atom Lambton Sting AAA hockey team prior to a team practice.
