Bluewater Health has added five new doctors including a dermatologist, something Sarnia-Lambton has gone without since last spring.
Dr. M. Foroozan has begun seeing patients at Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital in Petrolia, once again providing local residents with skin care.
“I chose Sarnia to practice because I recognize the local need for a dermatologist and want to provide my services to the community,” Foroozan said in a statement.
The arrival of the McGill-educated Foroozan comes after Dr. A. K. Gupta ceased making weekly visits to Sarnia from his practice in London earlier this year.
Gupta had originally stepped up to assist former patients of the city’s last remaining dermatologist, Dr. Aurea Jose, who retired in 2011 with 5,000 people on her roster.
The recruitment means Sarnia residents like Linda Pickford no longer have to travel elsewhere for treatment.
Pickford, who suffers from severe dermatitis, or eczema, had already visited a Windsor practitioner once this year.
“Everybody in Sarnia who has had to travel outside of town to see a dermatologist … can now sign up with this doctor and life should be a little bit easier for them,” she said.
Other new recruits to the Bluewater Health team include emergency physician Dr. Orla MacSweeney, respirologist Dr. Rohit Mehta, family doctor Justin Mall, and ob-gyn Dr. Baljit Singh, who will also serve as medical director of the hospital’s maternal, infant and child program.
Singh’s leadership will allow the hospital to expand its influence in the treatment of women and children, said chief of professional staff Dr. Mark Taylor.
For example, women who had to visit London for urinary tract concerns can now receive care at Bluewater Health, he said.
