Sarnia-Lambton has four new cases of COVID-19 this morning, one more death, and a new outbreak at a long-term care home in Sarnia.
A resident of Marshall Gowland Manor tested positive for the virus and was placed in isolation as soon as they started experiencing symptoms, said Jane Joris, general manager of Lambton County’s long-term care division.
“We are diligently following all of the policies and protocols put in place by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Long- Term Care to prevent the spread,” she said.
The 127-bed home has been restricting visitors since March 13 and screening all entering staff since March 9.
Marshall Gowland Manor has almost 200 staff members working in jobs from nursing to food service, recreation and environmental services, Joris said.
Lambton Public Health said this morning one more person has died of COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 18.
The four new cases mean 217 people have now contracted the virus and 160 have recovered, 10 more than Friday.
A second outbreak continues at Vision Nursing Home in Sarnia, where 13 residents and five staff have been infected. Three residents have died.
Outbreaks at Landmark Village, Meadowview Villa and Sumac Lodge have been declared over.
Lambton County says it currently has enough personal protective equipment for its long-term care, public health, paramedic, OPP and fire staff. However, others will require PPE as restrictions are lifted and county staff are working to acquire more.
Senior homes account for 20% of COVID-19 cases in Sarnia-Lambton. Health care workers account for another 15%.
