Sarnia Lambton Sports Hall of Fame announces three new winners

The Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame has announced another three award winners.

Ryan Davies and Jace McGrail are co-winners of the Pappy Burr Award, which goes to outstanding students about to enter post secondary education, while Andrew Brimmer is the recipient of the Joe DeRush Award, which goes to athletes with physical disabilities.

Davies is a two-time OFSAA steeplechase champion who maintained a 97 percent average during his four years at Sarnia's Northern Collegiate. He has also been a volunteer for the Inn of the Good Shepherd, has worked with youth to improve literacy skills and has assisted at local tennis tournaments, among other things.

McGrail, of Wyoming, also recorded consistent marks in the 90s while attending Petrolia's Lambton Central Collegiate. He also volunteers for local Terry Fox Runs, helps local food banks and has collected mitts and hats for the Sarnia Legionnaires Jr. 'B' hockey team's annual Wooly Toss.

At LCCVI he participated in baseball, cross country, hockey, volleyball and track and field.

Brimmer has been with Special Olympics Sarnia for five years, taking part in recreational and basketball, soccer and bowling events. He has also taken part in regional tournaments in all three of those sports.

The Hall will hold its annual induction dinner October 14 at the Dante Club in Sarnia.
