On September 29th, 2024, at 2:09pm the Sarnia Police Service were dispatched to a weapons call in the 100 block of East Street, near Wellington Street.
The Sarnia Police Service recieved several 911 calls in relation to the incident.
The subsequent investigation revealed that a dispute ensued between two males when the victim questioned the accused regarding him stealing jewellery and a gold bar.
The accused then shot the victim in the face and neck several times with a pellet gun, causing injury to the male. The male also had a second handgun on his person at the time of the offence. It is not known if this was a real handgun or a second pellet gun.
The pellet gun used was a Glock style pellet gun that would appear real unless a closer inspection was conducted. The male then fled the scene after fighting with other occupants of the apartment building who were successful in getting one of the guns from the male.
The Sarnia Police Service immediately attended the scene and attempted to contain the area. The Emergency Response Team and Canine unit were deployed and a track was commenced through the Kathleen Avenue and Wellington Street corridor of the city. The track located discarded evidence but the accused was not located at this time.
A 34 year old is currently wanted for the following offences:
- Armed Robbery
- Imitation Firearm - Use While Commiting an Offence
- Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Assault with a Weapon (2 counts)
- Assault Cause Bodily Harm
- Pointing a Firearm (2 counts)
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Failure to Comply with a Release Order
- Discharge Firearm with Intent
- Discharge Air Gun or Pistol with Intent
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
The Sarnia Police Service are asking that any person with knowledge of the whereabouts of Kevin Racette contact the Sarnia Police Service immediately. Alternatively, if you require anonymity you can contact Sarnia Lambton Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477). Kevin Racette is 6'5" tall and weighs approximately 220 pounds.
Sarnia Police are asking the public to not approach Kevin Racette or attempt to apprehend him. If sighted, call 911 immediately.
