On August 26th 2024, the Sarnia Police Service Major Case Action Team (MCAT) responded to a complaint from a local business regarding a suspicious pick-up truck. Through investigation, it was discovered the truck had a stolen licence plate on the rear and was suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run incident that occurred on August 23rd, 2024 in the 1200 block of Afton Drive, Sarnia.
At approximately 4:37pm, members of MCAT located the pick-up which was a brown 2007 Ford dually being driven by an unidentified male in the 200 block of East Street N. The vehicle was observed by officers pulling into a parking lot, where the driver exited the vehicle. Officers attempted to stop and arrest the male, but he fled on foot. Following a short foot pursuit on East Street N., the male was arrested.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle the male was operating had been stolen out of London several days earlier.
A 37-year-old of Sarnia, has been criminally charged with two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, and one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000. Additionally, Waters was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with two counts of using a plate not authorized for the vehicle and driving while under suspension.
The suspect was released on an Undertaking and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on October 3rd 2024. The vehicle and stolen licence plates were returned to their rightful owners.
The Sarnia Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the driver involved with the hit-and-run investigation from August 23rd, 2024. The driver is described as a white female with long brown hair.
