On August 13th, the 44year old male victim was asleep at an encampment in the Indian Road and Exmouth Street area. He awoke to another male accusing him of stealing drugs, who then struck him in the face and ribs with a hatchet. The male then grabbed a golf club and struck the victim over the head with the golf club. The victim suffered significant bruising to his head and face.
Upon police arrival, they located the victim, who had now armed himself with a different hatchet and a crowbar for protection. He complied with police direction to disarm, and later refused offers for medical treatment.
A search for the suspect was commenced. He was quickly locate and arrested. A 41 years old male of Sarnia was held for bail on the following charges:
- Assault with a Weapon (2 counts)
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Failure to Comply with a Release Order
At his bail hearing on August 14th, he was remanded into custody.
