LETTER: Years of bad government decisions have led to the current homelessness crisis

The current rise in homelessness can be directed back to bad decisions made by the Provincial and Federal govts.
High energy food fuels the homeless outside the Inn of the Good Shepherd on Devine Street.

The current rise in homelessness can be directed back to bad decisions made by the Provincial and Federal governments.

The shutting of psychiatric hospitals and cut-back to all mental health services years ago showed at the time the lack of concern for people suffering emotional disorders – in other words, they marginalized those people.

Fast forward twenty years and now the issue has come home to roost as the mental health problem has combined with self medication. We now have hundreds of people suffering the effects of drugs and mental health issues, creating problems across the board, from being a general nuisance all the way to theft and assault. So now it’s costing money for extra policing and in future how to house these people.
Thank the shortsightedness of government.
