The documentary Safe will be screened at Indwell’s April 15 open house in Point Edward, sharing stories of transformation made possible through supportive housing.

For too long, Sarnia-Lambton has seen friends, neighbours and loved ones battling housing insecurity, mental health issues and addiction. We’ve argued, we’ve cried, and we’ve lost more than we ever thought we would. Much of the pain has been in silence without long-term solutions.

Finally, an answer to help solve this crisis is on the horizon.

Indwell, a charity with a 50-year history dedicated to providing affordable and supportive housing, has chosen Sarnia to be one of the next cities to call its supportive housing program home. The charity has already helped more than 1,290 people in seven Ontario communities through its unique model that combines stable housing with wraparound mental health and addiction support.

Having worked for years behind the scenes with local charities and government agencies to get to this point, Indwell is hosting an open house to meet the people of Sarnia and introduce them to their life-changing solutions. The free event is open to everyone and will be held at the Four Points by Sheraton in Point Edward.

The April 15 Open House starts at 6:00 p.m., with screenings of the documentary Safe at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. The film shares powerful stories of transformation made possible by supportive housing.

Attendees will also be able to connect with Indwell staff, meet like-minded community members and explore ways to get involved. A cash bar will be available, and while registration is encouraged at indwell.ca/events, walk-ins are warmly welcomed.

This evening will mark the beginning of something deeply important for Sarnia-Lambton – a real, tangible solution toward safe, affordable and supportive housing for those who need it most.

“Indwell is committed to creating hope and homes for all,” said Natasha Thuemler, regional director with Indwell. “We believe that everyone deserves a safe and stable place to call home, and we’re eager to share our model with the Sarnia-Lambton community. This event is not only about showcasing our work but also about fostering conversations on how we can collaborate to expand supportive housing solutions for those in need.”

As a dedicated community partner, the Rotary Club of Sarnia is also supporting this initiative and encouraging everyone looking for a solution to attend the free open house.

“Housing is more than just a roof over someone’s head— it’s the foundation for stability, well-being and opportunity,” said Jamie Pole, the President of the Rotary Club of Sarnia. “Our club has always been committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen our community, and we see Indwell’s work as a vital step toward addressing housing insecurity in Sarnia-Lambton.”

This is Sarnia-Lambton’s call to action. It’s our moment to show that we care.

We’ve talked for years about the need for better mental health care, affordable housing and compassion for our most vulnerable. Indwell is giving us the chance to take real steps toward change—and they can’t do it alone.
