On January 4th, the 5th Annual Christmas Bird Count for Kids (CBC4KIDS) event occurred, offering a day filled with fun, learning, and environmental stewardship. The event was hosted by Lambton Wildlife’s Young Naturalists program, and aims to inspire the next generation of birders while contributing to North America’s longest-running wildlife census.

This year 34 different participants joined in exploring Canatara Park and learning about the diverse bird species residing within our community. They identified 718 birds across 18 different species, including memorable sightings of two bald eagles and eight northern cardinals.

CBC4KIDS blends education with science, encouraging families to connect with nature while contributing valuable data for bird conservation. The program reflects Lambton Wildlife's dedication to preserving the area’s natural heritage and highlights Sarnia’s recent designation as a Bird Friendly City, an achievement that was made possible through three years of effort by Bird Friendly Sarnia, a local conservation group.

This event is a shining example of the power of community in fostering a love for nature and cultivating future environmental stewards. For those who missed it, the video provides a glimpse into this event and the meaningful impact it has on nurturing young birders.
