With the City of Sarnia ending its city-wide Christmas tree collection service, Habitat for Humanity Sarnia/Lambton and DeGroot’s Nurseries have teamed up to offer a convenient and eco-friendly alternative for residents.

Starting January 2, 2025, residents can arrange to have their Christmas trees collected curbside through Habitat for Humanity’s new program. For a $20 fee, which directly supports Habitat’s community programs, trees will be picked up and taken to DeGroot’s Nurseries to be turned into mulch.

To schedule a pickup, residents can visit the Habitat for Humanity website at habitatsarnia.org/tree, call Habitat directly, or stop by their store on London Line to make arrangements.

For those who prefer to handle the disposal themselves, DeGroot’s will also accept Christmas tree drop-offs free of charge at a designated location on their property. Inside the main store, a donation jar for Habitat for Humanity will be available for those wishing to contribute.

Tree collection and drop-off will run until January 10, 2025, offering residents a practical solution for Christmas tree disposal following the end of the city-wide service. The initiative provides an accessible way to recycle trees while supporting Habitat for Humanity’s work in the community.
