LETTER: "We must stand together. Support Canadian businesses."

Letters to the editor

To the Editor,

Sarnia has always had a close relationship with the United States. Living in a border city, cross-border trade isn’t just part of the economy—it’s part of daily life. That’s why these new tariffs are so concerning. They will cost thousands of jobs and billions of dollars, hitting industries like petrochemicals and manufacturing that our community depends on. The impact won’t be gradual—it will be felt immediately, and it will only get worse over time.

But Canada is bigger than any single challenge. The sun rises over the Atlantic, shines across the golden prairies, and sets on the Pacific, lighting a nation built on resilience, innovation, and opportunity. From the fisheries of the East to the energy sector of the West, from manufacturing hubs to cutting-edge technology, our economy thrives when we invest in our own strength. Now is the time to expand interprovincial trade, strengthen local supply chains, and build on the industries that connect us from coast to coast to coast.

We must stand together. Support Canadian businesses. Hang your flag. BUY CANADA. We don’t just weather the storm—we lead.

Sincerely,
Rod Beatty
