Theatre Sarnia presents The Last Romance, a heartwarming comedy under WODL adjudication

The Last Romance is a touching comedy about love and second chances, presented at Sarnia’s Imperial Theatre. Directed by Jane Janes, the production is up for adjudication by the Western Ontario Drama League (WODL), which recognizes excellence in community theatre.

Theatre Sarnia is set to enchant audiences this October with The Last Romance, a heartwarming comedy about love, family, and second chances. Running from October 23 to 27 at the Imperial Theatre, this production, written by Joe DiPietro, explores love later in life while diving into the powerful bonds of family and the relationships we forge with pets.

The Last Romance follows Ralph, a widower who stumbles upon an unexpected chance at love when he meets Carol during a walk in the park. As the two get to know each other, Ralph’s life is infused with new purpose. More than just a romantic comedy, the play touches on themes of loyalty, regret, and finding joy in the everyday—no matter your age.

“This production beautifully captures the essence of love in many forms—romantic, familial, and even our connection with pets,” says Brian Austin Jr., Executive Director of Theatre Sarnia. “It’s a story that will resonate with anyone who sees it.”

Directed by Jane Janes, the cast includes John Reid as Ralph, Liz Walton as Carol, Charmaine Jacklin as Rose (Ralph’s sister), and Shawn Chapman as the Young Man. Rounding out the ensemble is Peaches, the dog, who adds a unique charm to the stage.

Janes speaks highly of the cast and crew: “The dedication of everyone involved has been remarkable. I couldn’t have asked for a better team, from our talented actors to the hardworking crew.”

As part of Theatre Sarnia’s second production this season, The Last Romance is also up for adjudication in the Western Ontario Drama League (WODL) awards. The community’s support for local theatre shines through in this production, which is a reflection of the immense talent that has long been a hallmark of the Sarnia arts scene.

Tickets are available online or at the Imperial Theatre Box Office, with prices ranging from $14.50 to $29. Performances run for five nights only, and patrons are encouraged to reserve their seats early.
