The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton has set its 2018 campaign goal at $2 million.

“Our volunteer Board of Directors has set the 2018 goal based on the donations that were made last year,” said campaign chair Vicki Ducharme, noting the 2017 campaign that surpassed its $2 million target. “This fall we are looking to our younger leaders to take up the cause, these are the people who are beginning their careers.

“We know the baby boomers and the older generation of leaders are retiring,” she added. “And it is up to us to reach out to the younger generation and build off the foundation that has been built in this community.”

United Way contributions aim to impact the community in three priority areas: ‘healthy, resilient, successful kids; healthy, safe, independent seniors; and empowering self-sustaining families.

The United Way funds 37 programs and services provided by 19 local agencies, and the money raised will help maintain those services.

The annual campaign officially kicks off Sept. 11 with the Day of Caring.
