The Sarnia Community Foundation has announced this year’s Women of Excellence.

The three 2020 winners were selected from nearly 30 applicants, and each was recognized for working quietly and without fanfare to build a better quality of life in Sarnia-Lambton.

“In our terms - community is thoughtful, committed citizens determined to change the world they live in,” said Foundation executive director Jane Anema.

This year’s Women of Excellence are:

Jane Cadman

JANE CADMAN: is a community volunteer and organizer, primarily with the Petrolia Rotary Club and Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital Auxiliary. She has been a municipal councillor, newspaper reporter, considers volunteering to be a profession, and can always be counted on to roll up her sleeves and get the job done.

Margaret Capes

MARGARET CAPES: is a retired lawyer who has worked throughout her career to help poor and marginalized populations. She taught the Law Society of Upper Canada’s bar admission course, was executive director Community Legal Assistance in Sarnia, and is still involved with the Community Law School and co-directs the Deerhaven Centre for Social Justice.

Bethany Tiegs

BETHANY TIEGS: is an elementary enrichment teacher with the Lambton Kent District School Board who is passionately committed to student success and an active member of her union. She is also a stage manager, choreographer, actor and occasional bartender with Theatre Sarnia, facilitated the 2019 Women’s March, and is a fitness coach and roller derby guru.
