The Sarnia Sting drafted 16 players in the Ontario Hockey League priority selection, including centre Jamieson Rees in the first round with the #9 overall pick.
Rees had 24 goals and 40 points in 32 games with the Mississauga Reps this year, and Sting general manager Nick Sinclair said he was thrilled to get him.
“Jamieson is a player that we had at the top of our list all season long,” he said. “He plays an honest 200-foot game with a really good skill set and high-end compete level.”
The Sting selected eight forwards, seven defencemen and one goaltender in the draft.
With the 37th overall pick in the second round Sarnia added Hockey Eastern Ontario player of the year Alexandre Hogue of the Cumberland Grads.
The offensive defenceman posted 14 goals and 47 points in 44 games this season.
“Alexandre is one of the top offensive defencemen in the entire draft. He’s a puck moving defender with great mobility and has a natural knack for creating offence,” Sinclair said.
In the 13th round, Sarnia drafted Sarnia native and Lambton Jr. Sting forward Nolan DeGurse.
