Sarnia cross country runner wins medal on international stage

Sarnia runner Andrew Davies snagged a personal bronze medal in helping Canada to gold at the NACAC Cross Country Championships on Feb. 16.

Competing in the U20 event in Trinidad and Tobago, the Northern Collegiate grad claimed a podium spot by finishing in a time of 27:37.

Davies followed teammates Evan Burke (1st) and Nicolas Mota (3rd) across the finish line in Port-Au-Spain on the six member Canadian squad, and was one of seven Canadian medalists overall.

The championships featured runners from North American, Central America and the Caribbean.

The Canadian women’s U20 team also finished 1-2-3 to sweep the podium.

Davies’ next major competition will be the 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Denmark on March 30.
