Sarnia will use $32,000 in federal assistance to make the first floor washrooms accessible at the Sarnia Library.

Steps to the washroom currently make the library difficult to use for anyone with a disability.

The washrooms were just one of many shortcomings identified in a recent architectural report on the condition of the 55-year-old library.

The facility, which is owned by the city but operated by Lambton County, needs mechanical, electrical and architectural upgrades, the report states.

Council must still determine where the library fits on its capital spending plan.
