The Sarnia Sting’s annual Black & White game in support of the United Way will pack a twist this year.
As always, the game will feature current Sting players and prospects vying for a roster spot.
But the Sept. 2 tilt will also see Mayor Mike Bradley and others officially welcome the hockey team’s new ownership group with a pep rally and party.
“We’re really building off the last two games of last season, when the building was just rocking,” Bradley said.
“We’d like to see a really good crowd out there on Sept. 2 to say, ‘Welcome to Sarnia.’”
The pep rally will be held in the parking lot of the RBC Centre prior to the game, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and will feature live music, interactive games for the kids, and a licensed beer gardens for fans over 19.
It will be highlighted by a formal welcoming of team owners Derian Hatcher and David Legwand.
A full itinerary is to be released at a later date.
Admission to the Black and White game is free, with proceeds from the 50/50 draw, Jersey raffle, and lineup sheet sales going to the United Way.
“We are very grateful to the previous ownership group and look forward to working with new ownership to grow our relationship even more,” said United Way executive director Dave Brown.
Also supporting the initiative are Lambton Ford, Blackburn Radio, and Gamble Hub Insurance.
