Sarnia's Northern Collegiate was nosed out by LaSalle's Sandwich Secondary School for the overall SWOSSA high school track and field title on May 23.
But local athletes broke several Southwestern Ontario records at the meet, held over two days in Chatham and Windsor.
Cassidy Crowe of the Vikings set a new mark in the senior women's 100 metre hurdles with a time of 14.38 seconds.
LCCVI's McKayla Eves, who finished second to Crowe in the record-setting hurdles race, earlier set a new mark of 12.15 in the senior women's 100 metre dash.
And Northern's Skylar Minaker covered the midget girls 80 metre hurdles in a record time of 12.12 seconds.
Some inspiring new records came when athletes with physical and mental challenges took centre stage.
Cole Campbell of Alexander Mackenzie set new standards in both the men's 200 and 400 metre wheelchair races, and Alexis Askin-Hunter of SCITS captured the women's blind 100 metre race in record time.
Two other Alexander Mackenzie athletes captured the Intellectual 100 metre races, both setting new records in the process. Tiffany Hillman won the women's contest, beating teammate Nicki Wood, and Sean Weshlinski captured the men's event by nosing out Northern's Jesse Stewart by four/100's of a second.
Overall, Sarnia-Lambton athletes won 21 events with Sebastian Smith, Kristy Hodgins and Campbell and Eves each registering two victories apiece.
Area qualifiers move on to the OFSSA Regional meet in Windsor on May 30 and 31, in advance of the all-Ontario meet the following weekend in the GTA.
