The parking lot at Sarnia Bay Marina is currently being expanded in preparation for a relocated boat launch.

The job awarded to Bre-ex Construction at a cost of $576,000 includes new asphalt, curbs and sidewalks and the installation of bases and wiring for new light standards.

City Hall says the goal is have the parking lot finished this year, provided the weather stays fair.

Council is expected to award another tender in coming weeks to demolish the Dow People Place, remove trees and prepare the site for the next steps in the remediation of Centennial Park.

Next spring, work will begin on those parts of the park still fenced off to the public.

The beach area will be replaced with shoreline protection and a gathering area and performance stage built. A playground and pathways will be added, and the boat launch moved from its current position closer to Sarnia Bay Marina.
