Sarnia Sting goalie Nick Surzycia made 27 saves, as the team picked up a win on the road in Saginaw Saturday night.

Sandis Vilamnis and the LeBlanc twins scored in the 3-1 win.

Sarnia opened the scoring, though not until the second period, as both goaltenders stood tall for their teams. Nolan Lalonde stopped 24 of 26, while Surzycia’s 27 saves held Sarnia in front.

Vilmanis scored his second of the game at the 11:11 mark of the second period; the unassisted goal came off a face-off where Vilmanis stole the puck and outwaited Lalonde to put the Sting the Sting up 1-0.

Saginaw would answer back before the end of the period. Matyus Sapovliv would pull the Spirit even at 1-1 with his third of the season, with just 3:10 to go in the middle frame.

Michael Misa would take a tripping penalty, along with a 10-minute misconduct for abuse of official, giving the Sting just their second powerplay of the game. Jacob LeBlanc would come though with his second of the season to put Sarnia in front 2-1. Marko Sikic and Vilmanis picked up the assists on the powerplay goal.

Andrew Leblanc would add the insurance marker with 1:03 into the empty net, his fifth of the season, unassisted, to give Sarnia the 3-1 win.

The Sting played a very disciplined game, not giving any powerplay chances to Saginaw, while scoring once on two chances themselves.

The win snaps a short two-game losing streak and brings the Sting to 7-5-0 on the season as they return home Sunday afternoon for a matinee game against the Niagara Ice Dogs.

Sarnia won the previous game in Niagara 3-2 in overtime. Puck drops at 2:05 p.m., and tickets are available at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena box office or online at sarniasting.com.
