Owen Sound 'attack' on the powerplay as Sting lose 6-4

Deni Goure led the way with a five-point night, as Owen Sound attacked on the man advantage, defeating the Sarnia Sting 6-4 Friday night at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena. 

The Owen Sound Attack took control early, leading 3-1 after the first period.

Cedrick Guindon picked up his ninth of the season just over a minute in, but Tyson Doucette would respond less than two minutes later to tie it with his ninth of the season. 

With the game tied 1-1, the Sting gave up back-to-back powerplay goals — Ethan Burroughs’ scoring both goals to give him six on the season. Goure assisted both goals. 

The Sting would control the second period however, and get the game tied once again. Cooper Way brought Sarnia within a goal with his second of the season at the 12:14 mark of the middle period, followed by Zach Filak just over a minute later. Filak’s eighth of the season had the Sting tied 3-3 after 2.

Sarnia would jump out to a 4-3 lead at the 8:20 mark of the third on Easton Wainwright’s first of the season. 

That lead would evaporate however, as Owen Sound would continue the hot hand with the man advantage, as the Sting would give on a five-on-three opportunity, Owen Sound would score back-to-back goals within 1:04 of each other. 

Colby Barlow’s eighth tied the game at 4-4, while Goure picked up his ninth of the season to put the Attack ahead 5-4 with just under four minutes to play. 

Goure would add another into the empty net to seal the deal for Owen Sound 6-4. Goure, a Chatham-Kent product, was named the game’s first star with two goals and three assists, as he led his team to the win. Easton Wainwright was named the second star for the Sting with a goal and an assist, while Ethan Burroughs of the Attack rounded out the three stars with two goals and two assists for Owen Sound. 

The Sting now look ahead to Sunday when the Erie Otters come to town, tickets are available at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena box office or online at sarniasting.com.
