St. Mary’s threw everything but the kitchen sink at Legionnaires goalie Jack Martin Friday night — the Lincolns dominated the shot clock 45-18 in a 4-1 win.
Martin made 41 saves on 44 shots in the loss, giving him 61 saves in his last two games.
The Lincolns came out strong, leading the shot clock 16-4 in the first period, but were unable to find the scoresheet until the second period.
Marcus Dashevsky picked up his second goal of the season and lone goal of the second period at the 7:24 mark, giving St. Mary’s the 1-0 lead.
The Legionnaires would tie the game at the 7:30 mark of the third period as Matthew Andersen scored his third of the year. Austin Harper picked up the one assist on Sarnia’s only goal.
Sarnia would run into penalty trouble in the third, in total, giving up seven chances on the powerplay to the Lincolns. St. Mary’s was able to score twice with the man advantage.
Adam Barkley and Marcus Dashevsky would score goals just 15 seconds apart, both on the powerplay. Barkley now has three on the season, and Dashevky’s second of the game was also his third of the season, and suddenly the Lincolns jumped out to a 3-1 lead.
St. Mary’s would eventually add the empty netter with just 53 seconds left, to finish the win 4-1. Ryan Cornfield added the insurance, his third goal of the season.
Special teams were a factor as Sarnia was unable to convert on three chances, and gave St. Mary’s seven chances to work with the man advantage, giving up two goals while shorthanded.
The Legionnaires are now off until Thursday November 9 when they play host to the Brantford Bandits at the Pat Stapleton Arena.
Fans will be able to continue bidding on the Sarnia Bees warm up jerseys, bidding closes November 30th, with proceeds to support the Sarnia Humane Society.
