On December 3rd, at approximately 2:00 am, a homeowner confronted a male party who was attempting to break into the homeowner's garage in the 400 block of Nelson Street.

After a small struggle, the accused party fled on a bicycle.

Officers from the Sarnia Police Service, Community Response Division, located the male party a short distance away and arrested him.  The accused's identity was confirmed by the security cameras on the homeowner's property.

A 44 year old has been charged with the following offences:

  • Trespassing at Night
  • Break and Enter

The Sarnia Police Service cautions residents that their propane canisters should be secured and out of sight on their property.  With the numberous homeless encampments, occupants are heating their outdoor enclosures with the use of propane heaters.  This has caused the propane heaters to become a commodity and gives thieves a reason to enter your property if these are left in sight.  Once they are on your property, other opportunities to steal items will present themselves once they enter garages, homes, or sheds.
