Letters to the editor

Over the past six years, a group of women in Lambton County, who named themselves “Sew4TheFlow”, have been sewing reusable, washable menstrual pads with waterproof shields for women in third world countries.  Many of the women in these countries do not have the funds to purchase what we so easily can purchase in our stores. For many, the lack of such products has limited them in their education as well as working outside of the home.

The Sew4TheFlow sewers have been fund raising as well as paying out of their own pockets for the supplies to provide these kits.  The kits we have provided to the women consist of eight washable pads, a facecloth, a bar of soap and a pair of underwear. They have been distributed in Guatemala, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, and now to Cuba.

By sewing in their homes, the Sew4TheFlow group has handed out approximately 32,000 kits to date.  We would like to appeal to the community to help us continue sewing, and would appreciate your gifts of flannel fabric, any size or colour, to help us continue with this project.

We truly can do more together than we could ever do alone!

If you can help us in this way, please call or text Coby Van Reenen at 519-381-2317 or Pat Mensinga at 519-381-0934.
