Dear Editor:

Re: Sarnia dog owner heartbroken after shih tzu attacked, killed at dog park

I just read the heartbreaking story in The Journal regarding the Shih tzu dog who was recently attacked and killed by a large dog at Blackwell dog park.

Firstly, so sorry to the owner for this terrible and unexpected loss. A family member was caring for the dog while owner was away, which adds another layer to this sad story.

Not all dog parks have a bad reputation. Germain Park is well-run with friendly dogs and their owners and importantly offer a large dog section and small/medium section. There is also a plan in the works for an update when Germain has a makeover.

I wonder how many people out there consider doggie day care to socialize their dogs with others and experience great exercise off the leash?

Fox and Hound have a well-run facility with a large ‘playground’ area inside, as well as outside areas and pools. Once a week would be a treat for your dog!

There may be others out there who also run similar operations.

In closing, I do hope the lady who owns the killer dog and promptly left Blackwell Dog Park makes the right move and comes forward for the sake of all responsible dog owners.
