LETTER: More resources needed to tackle addiction crisis

Dear Editor:

As disappointing as it is waiting even longer for the new Addictions Hub (likely 2025), we are missing the point.

The provincial government does not, by action, demonstrate that the epidemic of drug abuse, deaths and huge health care costs associated with it are anything to worry about.

The rise in crimes and declining behaviour in the communities where folks living with addiction live – is everywhere.

Our county alone saw over 34 opioid-related deaths last year.

The suffering of all of our community continues.

We need a withdrawal management centre (rehab) desperately, and yes, more detox beds, wraparound services, long-term supports and aftercare.

How do we get that?

Tell our politicians enough is enough. City, county, provincial and federal are all failing us.

Demand better and demand more.

Another study, committee just compounds what we already know — we are just fighting symptoms of the real problems.
