Students and staff at two Sarnia schools were told to shelter in place for a short time Wednesday after a fire broke out at a nearby construction site, officials say.
In a news release issued by the St. Clair Catholic School Board, officials say the shelter in place order was issued by Sarnia Police for St. Patrick’s Catholic High School and St. Anne Catholic School on The Rapids Parkway, Wednesday afternoon, due to a fire at the nearby construction site of the new Gregory A. Hogan Catholic School.
“The fire was confined to a spray foam truck and does not appear to have affected the building,” the news release noted, adding there were no injuries.
Air intakes at both schools were closed off.
The shelter in place — typically issued when there is an emergency in the vicinity of the school building, not related to the school — was lifted shortly after. During a shelter in place, students are kept inside and the school continues on with its normal routines of the day, the board added.
Sarnia Fire Rescue posted a photo on social media of a vehicle fire in the 900 block of the Rapids Parkway. “Crews worked quickly to knock down the fire” the post noted, asking residents to avoid the area.
