It’s a little noisier downtown this fall.
Tricar Group is erecting a 15-storey highrise at 275 Front St. N. and recently asked Sarnia for a four-month exemption to its noise bylaw to allow building steel to be unloaded as early as 5 a.m., and as late as 8 p.m.
Residents of two neighbouring apartment buildings took up petitions, saying construction noise at 5 a.m. would disrupt sleep and impair their quality of life.
A nearby hotel concerned about its guests also filed an objection.
City councillors approved a compromise last month. Saying downtown residents already live in a loud environment, they granted an exemption that prohibits construction noise before 6:30 a.m., which is 30 minutes earlier than usual.
