Sarnia-Lambton remains under a winter weather advisory Saturday as Environment Canada warns that travel may be hazardous, while Highway 402 remains closed.
"Avoid any unnecessary travel until conditions improve," OPP West Region posted on Twitter, Saturday, pointing to multiple collisions and road closures across the region. "Poor to zero visibility as weather conditions continue to deteriorate."Environment Canada says drivers can expect strong wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/hr, sudden reduction of visibility and accumulation of snow due to blowing snow on road surfaces, especially over exposed areas.
A blizzard warning issued by Environment Canada, Friday, was lifted.
The City of Sarnia issued a significant weather event, Friday, noting that snow removal operations may take longer than normal. The County of Lambton issued a similar alert Friday.
“A significant weather event is declared when it is anticipated that approaching or current weather hazards have the potential to pose significant danger to road users within the County,” a county news release noted.Extreme cold wind chill conditions are expected to improve slightly this afternoon, Environment Canada said.
