A woman who crashed into a parked car, and a man driving with three young kids are allegedly among three people arrested and charged with impaired driving over the holiday weekend, police say.

The first incident occurred Friday, Oct. 6, around 8:15 p.m., when a woman driving northbound on Willow Glen Court at high speed “failed to negotiate the curve and struck a parked vehicle on the north side of this same street,” police said in a news release. “This caused extensive damage to both vehicles, including the loss of the front bumper bearing a licence plate associated to the driver’s home address.”

The driver fled the scene but was eventually located by police, at her residence with the damaged vehicle in the driveway, police stated.

“The responding officer subsequently detected a strong odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath, and as a result, the accused was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Conveyance.”

Further tests showed her blood-alcohol concentration to be more than 2.5 times the legal limit.

In addition to being charged with Failure to Stop After Accident, the 32-year-old Sarnia woman was also charged with Operation of a Conveyance with 80mg of Alcohol or More in 100ml of Blood. She was later released on an Undertaking Given to a Peace Officer. The second incident occurred Saturday, Oct. 7, around 3:30 a.m., when an officer stopped a vehicle traveling southbound on Indian Road near Confederation Street after a random query showed an unconfirmed insurance status.

“After speaking with this driver, the officer suspected that the male had consumed alcohol and therefore issued a roadside breath demand which resulted in a ‘fail’ reading,” police noted.

The driver was arrested and additional breath tests taken at Sarnia Police Headquarters showed his blood-alcohol concentration to be nearly twice the legal limit.

The accused, a 51-year-old Corunna man, faces a charge of Operation of a Conveyance with 80mg of Alcohol or More in 100ml of Blood, and was later released on an Appearance Notice.

The third arrest occurred Sunday Oct. 8, around 3:45 p.m. when police were notified of “an impaired driver in the company of his three young children in the area of Coronation Lane and Modeland Road,” police stated. “The vehicle was located by the responding officer parked on Coronation facing west in the eastbound lane.

“The vehicle was running at this time with the accused seated in the driver’s seat and his kids standing outside of the vehicle.”

The driver was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Conveyance “after the officer observed his demeanor and detected a strong odour of alcohol on his breath.”

Subsequent tests showed the driver’s blood-alcohol concentration to be more than 3.5 times the legal limit.

The 38-year-old London, Ontario man was charged with Operation of a Conveyance with 80mg of Alcohol or More in 100ml of Blood and later released on an Appearance Notice.

“The children were placed in the safe care of their mother,” police said.
