The Rotary Club of Sarnia will host its annual pancake breakfast to coincide with the start of the Mackinac sailboat race, Saturday, July 15.
The popular event held annually at Point Edward’s Waterfront Park invites visitors to enjoy an outdoor breakfast while watching yachts from across North America pass under the Blue Water Bridge.
“It’s a tremendous event,” said Club President Mark Taylor. “It’s been a tradition in our community for over 40 years, and that’s something to celebrate.”
The event involves some 50 volunteers on hand to serve more than 2,000 breakfasts, while raising between $10,000 and $15,000 each year.
“It’s not just about the fundraising,” said organizer Carolyn Leaver-Luciani. “It’s about getting out with friends and family, enjoying our amazing waterfront, and having fun.”
Visitors are encouraged to bring their own bottled water or cups, as well as plates and cutlery, as the event strives to be more eco-friendly. Drinking water will be donated by Kerns Water.
“We’re just trying to cut down on plastic waste going to landfill,” said Leaver-Luciani, “and we think people will support us in this.”
The full breakfast includes freshly made pancakes and sausages, along with a choice of coffee, tea, or juice.
The event runs from 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
