A gazebo that will overlook the St. Clair River has been approved for Sarnia’s southern boundary, pending consultation with the Aamjiwnaang First Nation.

The lookout and interpretive centre will be the final piece in a Bluewater Trails project linking Sarnia’s recreational trails with the St. Clair River Trail, which runs beside river south to Port Lambton.

The octagonal gazebo will offer walkers, cyclists and joggers a place to stop and enjoy the view from the grassy bank on River Road, between Marlborough Lane and LaSalle Line.

The structure will be 16 by 20 feet and made of steel on a concrete pad. The gazebo features central bike stands, benches and signage.

A guardrail on the road will provide protection for trail users.

Sarnia has approved the concept and forwarded it for First Nation consultation.

The $40,000 cost is covered by Bluewater Trails and a $25,000 donation from Shell Canada.

Bluewater Trails will have about $20,000 left in its account when the project is completed.
