Punk Rock Bowling tradition continues

The longstanding community event celebrated another successful year.

On Saturday, January 18, Punk Rock Bowling took over Marcin Bowl in Point Edward. The lanes were filled with many attendees in costume for this year’s video game theme.

Approximately 200 people attended this community event and fundraiser.

For organizer Dez Percival, the annual event held every third week in January is a chance for the community to come together, have fun, and help out some worthy causes.

Over 500 non-perishable food items and an additional $215 were collected for The Inn of the Good Shepherd.

A total of $480 was raised for the Sarnia Area Fresh Start Project. This charity supports individuals and families transitioning from shelters to homes by providing basic household and personal items.

Additionally, $1375 was raised for a community member in need, someone near and dear to many who attended the event.

Now in its twelfth year, Punk Rock Bowling in Sarnia started when a group of friends, unable to go to Las Vegas to attend the popular event of the same name, decided to start something of their own.

Sarnia’s Punk Rock Bowling has remained a grassroots event that brings together people of all ages and walks of life. Though there is punk music playing over the speakers, lending the event a fun and energetic feel, it is not just for punk rock fans.

“We want everyone to come,” says Percival. “We want everyone to experience it. Punk rock is inclusive.”

Trophies were awarded to the bowler with the highest score, the best costume, and the lowest score of the day.

“Everyone who attends always has a great time,” Percival continues. “It’s about that feeling of community and togetherness. We’re way stronger together.”

Percival extended her gratitude to everyone who participated and all the other helpers and organizers who continue to make the event possible. They look forward to keeping the event going and growing for as long as they can.
