Cinderella’s wish granted
Awesome Foundation Sarnia has awarded a $1,000 no-strings attached grant to Debbie Anderson for her project Cinderella Story.
Anderson’s group collects dresses for a free annual Prom Dress Boutique for young women who lack resources. But a few are left out each year because their sizes aren’t available.
The money will buy dresses in sizes that are hard to come by through donations.
The Awesome Foundation, which gives away $1,000 each month, is accepting submissions now for its next “pitch party.”

Community bed drive
Got an extra bed you are not using?
NeighbourLink Sarnia-Lambton is holding a community bed drive on May 31, from 9 a.m. to noon.
All donated, gently-used beds will be given to low-income families in the community.

Breakfast on the farm
Lambton’s first Breakfast on the Farm is coming June 14.
To celebrate the role of farming, 500 guests are being invited the Sarnia farm of Kevin and Melissa Forbes for a free breakfast, farm tours and children’s activities.
Tickets must be booked online at Eventbrite.ca under “Breakfast on the Farm 2014. The next batch becomes available May 20, at 8 a.m. No tickets will be available at the gate.
The Sarnia-Lambton Business Development Corporation and Lambton Federation of Agriculture are organizing the event.

Crossing Guard Idol
Know a great school crossing guard?
The Commissionaires is asking the public to vote for the top crossing guard in Sarnia and Point Edward.
The winner for the 2014-15 school year will be recognized June 9 at a barbecue at Community of Christ Church in Sarnia.
To vote, identify the location of the school crossing and provide a short explanation of why you think that person should win.

Public works contract
City hall and its public works employees have completed contract negotiations.
Five-six members of C.U.P.E., Local 153 will get annual wage increases of 1.5% this year and in 2015 and 2016. The agreement also includes some benefit adjustments.
The cost to taxpayers works out to $85,000 this year, and $78,000 in each of the next two years.

Two for the road
Nearly a kilometre each of Exmouth Street and Lansdowne Avenue will be repaved this year.
City hall also approved paving more than a kilometre of Telfer Road near the airport.
And entire gravel trail in the Suncor Nature Way is getting the asphalt treatment, from Modeland Road to Wawanosh wetlands, along with a small strip of unpaved trail in Mike Weir Park.
