New technology is on the market to help police identify stolen property and return it to its rightful owner.
Trace pens are filled with tiny discs about the size of a grain of sand suspended in an acrylic adhesive. Each disc is laser-etched with a personal identification number that can be glued to personal possessions.
Users register their property on a database, and if something is stolen the database registers the number for police.
Sarnia Police say Trace kits could help protect homes from break-ins. They come with window stickers noting items have been marked to discourage would-be thieves.
Trace pens cost about $40 and are available at Home Hardware outlets.
