Kindergarten registration is underway for families in Sarnia-Lambton and Chatham-Kent, with both the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) and the St. Clair Catholic District School Board (SCCDSB) offering tailored events designed to ease the transition for young students.
The LKDSB has introduced an updated process that minimizes paperwork during in-person visits. Parents are encouraged to complete the registration steps online ahead of time, leaving the in-school events free for exploring classrooms, meeting staff, and familiarizing children with their new environment.
“By shifting the focus away from paperwork, children and families can spend more time forming a positive connection with their future classroom and peers,” said Ben Hazzard, Superintendent of Elementary Education at LKDSB.
The LKDSB will host registration events on January 30 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and January 31 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at all elementary schools in the region. Parents can visit www.LKDSB.net/Kindergarten for further details and to complete the online registration process.
Meanwhile, the SCCDSB is organizing KinderSTARt events, which aim to introduce families to school staff and community resources while offering children the opportunity to explore their future schools. The events, open to both registered and non-registered families, will take place at various locations from January 14 to January 23, between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
Scott Johnson, Director of Education for SCCDSB, emphasized the importance of these events in easing the transition for new students. “KinderSTARt is an opportunity for children to meet their teachers and explore their school, helping them feel ready for this new chapter.”
