Announced at NSERC’s annual Synergy Awards for Innovation on November 6 in Ottawa, the award celebrates outstanding collaborations between academia and industry. Lambton College was recognized in the College Partnerships category for its essential role in advancing the production of chloromethylfurfural (CMF), a sustainable, plant-based compound with applications in recyclable plastics.

With Bioindustrial Innovation Canada (BIC) supporting the nomination, the college’s contribution to Origin Materials' development of CMF highlights the impact of their pilot plant in Sarnia-Lambton. This research effort laid the groundwork for Origin’s commercial CMF facility, which began operations in October 2023.

This project exemplifies Lambton College’s commitment to fostering innovation, offering students real-world experience, and strengthening Canada’s bio-industrial sector through job creation and economic growth.
