Lambton College has been awarded two significant funding grants to support its energy storage and waste valorization research initiatives, officials announced recently.

The grants, awarded through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), include $965,376 to support Lambton’s Electrical Energy Storage Research Platform (EESRP), which focuses on developing and enhancing energy storage and battery technologies in collaboration with industry partners.

The college was awarded $880,000 for waste valorization research. The project aims to address global concerns regarding the increasing consumption of raw materials and resulting waste products due to ineffective waste management techniques, the college said in a news release.

"We are thrilled to receive these College Fund grants, which will significantly boost our ability to help SMEs and Canadian economy in energy storage and waste valorization and recycling sectors,” said Dr. Mehdi Sheikhzadeh, Lambton College’s senior vice president of research & innovation. “This funding will not only allow us to expand collaborative applied research projects with industry but also create a conducive teaching environment for training highly qualified personnel in growing cleantech sectors.

“Our students will gain invaluable real-life experience working alongside industry partners.”

More than $18 million through CFI’s College Fund will be allocated to 23 research infrastructure projects at 21 colleges, cégeps, and polytechnics across Canada.
