Lambton OPP say public mischief charges are being considered after a false report of a kangaroo sighting near Forest, Wednesday.
Police initially posted on social media around 2:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a kangaroo sighting on Douglas Line in Lambton Shores.
“The video sent to police shows the kangaroo standing on the roadway,” the post read, along with a photo and warning to residents not to approach.
About an hour later, OPP West Region posted an update confirming the kangaroo pictured was actually the same animal captured Tuesday in Chatham-Kent.
“Good news for the kangaroo and general public, officers have confirmed the animal was the one captured yesterday in Chatham-Kent,” police stated. “Bad news for the individual who reported this event in #LambtonOPP area, public mischief charges are being considered.”
Police in Chatham-Kent say a kangaroo made an escape from Greenview Aviaries Tuesday and was spotted hopping around Reeder’s Line in Howard Township before staff were able to catch and safely return it.
