The documentary Safe will be screened at Indwell’s April 15 open house in Point Edward, sharing stories of transformation made possible through supportive housing.

The public is invited to an open house hosted by Indwell, a non-profit organization that develops and operates supportive housing communities across Ontario, on Tuesday, April 15 at the Four Points by Sheraton in Point Edward.

The free event will feature two screenings of the documentary Safe, which follows the experiences of people living in supportive housing and includes interviews with Indwell tenants and other stakeholders. The film, produced by John Butler, runs approximately 45 minutes and contains some strong language and mature subject matter.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m., with screenings scheduled for 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Guests are welcome to attend either showing, or drop in for the open house portion only.

Throughout the evening, visitors will have the opportunity to speak with Indwell representatives, ask questions, and visit staffed stations about the organization’s mission, building design, service model, and ways to get involved.

The organization, which currently provides supportive housing for over 1,200 people in seven communities, is actively exploring opportunities in Lambton County. The open house offers residents a chance to learn more about the model and share ideas for future development.

“The rise in homelessness in our community is shocking and we need to do something about it,” said Michael Kooy of the Rotary Club of Sarnia. “We know from all kinds of research that there’s a way out if you combine housing with a supportive community of people who care.”

Kooy added that Rotary is pleased to see the community rallying around Indwell’s approach, noting that “we’re all going to benefit: neighbourhoods, businesses, and especially those of us who are struggling and looking for hope.”

Registration is encouraged at indwell.ca/events, though walk-ins are welcome. A cash bar will be available on site.

The event runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Four Points by Sheraton, 1498 Venetian Boulevard in Point Edward.
