A 36-year-old St. Clair Township man faces impaired and dangerous driving charges after police spotted an erratic driver in Mooretown, Saturday, and discovered a ‘distraught’ child in the vehicle.

Lambton OPP say the incident occurred around 11 a.m., when officers observed the vehicle driving erratically on Emily Street, near the Moore Sports Complex.

“Upon commencing a traffic stop, officers observed a young occupant within the vehicle who was also distraught with the driver's actions,” a news release stated. “Upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage and was displaying signs of impairment.

"The driver was arrested and transported to the Lambton OPP detachment where they provided two samples of breath above the legal limit,” police added.

The driver faces charges of impaired driving and dangerous driving, and has been released. He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

OPP are reminding residents that if you see a driver who you suspect may be impaired by alcohol or drugs, contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or *OPP (677) on your mobile phone.
