Sarnia-Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu has been named to Conservative party leader Pierre Poilievre’s Shadow Cabinet, taking on the role of ‘Shadow Minister of Civil Liberties.’
“This appointment is a recognition of the legitimate concerns Canadians have with respect to their freedoms, and I have been a stalwart supporter of Canadians’ rights and freedoms as both a citizen and throughout my time in Parliament,” Gladu said in a news release this week. “The last two and a half years of pandemic life brought serious restrictions on Canadians’ freedoms, including limitations on freedom of movement and limitations associated with mandatory vaccines.
“In this new portfolio, I will endeavour to not only make certain Canadians never face these restrictions on their freedoms again, but to work alongside our new leader, Pierre Poilievre, to make Canada the freest country in the world,” she added.
The list of shadow ministers has been dubbed Poilievre’s ‘inflation-busting Conservative Shadow Cabinet.’
Gladu was first elected in 2015, becoming the first female chemical engineer ever sent to the House of Commons.
She was twice voted the ‘most collegial Parliamentarian’ by her peers and has served as Official Opposition Science Critic, Chair for the Status of Women, and was previously named Shadow Minister for FedDev Southern Ontario and Privy Council Critic.
