Five local high school graduates were awarded scholarships at Gallery in the Grove, recently.
Ava Arndt (Northern Collegiate), Rayne Duong (Northern Collegiate) Mackenzie Phair (St. Patrick’s), Celeste Wiersma (Northern Collegiate) and Kaleb Savoie (St. Francois Xavier) each received $1,000 towards their continued studies in the arts.
Students were invited to present their portfolios, sketchbooks and artistic statements to a committee of high school art teachers.
“I would like thank the art teachers from high schools in Lambton County who juried the portfolios of all students who applied for our scholarships,” said gallery board member Gwen Moore. “This is not an easy task judging by the excellence and diversity of the samples we will see today.”
Ava Arndt will be studying Integrated Arts at MacMaster University; Rayne Duong will be taking Visual Art at the University of Windsor; Mackenzie Phair will study Illustration at Seneca College; Celeste Wiersma will be taking Culminative First Year Arts at Fanshawe College; and Kaleb Savoie will study Fashion Design at Toronto Metropolitan University.
Since the inception of the program in 1982, Gallery in the Grove has awarded over $145,000 in scholarships.
