Residents can expect elevated flaring and noise over the next few days as NOVA Chemicals’ Corunna state begins startup activities following a maintenance shutdown earlier this month.
The company is reminding residents that flares are important safety devices that safely burn excess hydrocarbon gases that cannot be recovered or recycled.
“Our flare systems must meet strict environmental controls as well as NOVA Chemicals' process safety and Responsible Care standards,” the company noted. “When you see flaring, please be assured that flares play a key role in keeping our facilities running safely. We strive to minimize flaring, keeping it to times necessary for our continued safe operation.”
