The Sarnia Library’s telescope lending program gives locals the chance to experience stargazing without buying expensive equipment. Each Telescope Kit includes a Celestron Travel Scope 80 Telescope, a tripod, and a smartphone adapter, allowing users to capture stunning photos of their celestial discoveries.

With only ten telescopes available to serve Lambton's libraries, their popularity has soared, and there is a growing waitlist of eager astronomy enthusiasts. Darlene Coke, the Manager of Library Services at the Sarnia-Lambton branch, shared her excitement about the program’s popularity: “We introduced them in August, and we've already had them borrowed on 44 occasions. So they have been quite popular.”
When asked about expanding the program, Coke explained that there are no immediate plans to increase the number of telescopes beyond ten, but the library is monitoring usage statistics to gauge interest and determine if adjustments are needed in the future.
Alongside the telescopes, the library has introduced several other unique offerings, including Wi-Fi hotspots, sports rentals like pickleball kits, and transit passes. The library’s commitment to providing new and innovative services demonstrates how it's evolving to meet the needs of the Sarnia-Lambton community.
