The Sarnia Salvation Army is preparing to kick off its annual Christmas Kettle Campaign, an initiative that holds significance not only locally but also as part of one of Canada’s largest and most recognizable charitable campaigns. Launching Thursday, November 14, the campaign aims to raise $165,000 to support the essential community services provided by the Salvation Army in Sarnia, including rental and utility assistance, and the local food bank.
Kettles will be set up at familiar spots across the city, including Canadian Tire, Superstore, Lambton Mall, Metro, No Frills, and Walmart. From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., volunteers will be present to encourage donations, with kettles operating on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays throughout November before expanding to a full six-day schedule in December. To make donating as convenient as possible, kettles will feature electronic tap options allowing $5, $10, or $20 contributions.
Nationally, the Christmas Kettle Campaign has become a central way for Canadians to connect with the Salvation Army, with over 2,000 kettle locations supporting a wide range of programs across the country. For many donors, contributing to the kettle during the holiday season is their main, and sometimes only, annual contact with the organization.
Thanks to the continued generosity of the Sarnia community, last year’s campaign surpassed its goal, with donations reaching over $166,000. This year, the organization is hopeful for a similar outcome, confident that community members will step forward to help meet the needs of local families. As volunteer participation is essential to the campaign’s success, the Salvation Army welcomes any additional support for filling shifts, ensuring that every kettle remains open for donations.
Currently, the Salvation Army is still looking to fill volunteer shifts at No Frills in Corunna on December 3rd, 10th, and 17th.
